Meet the Team: Shaina

If you’ve followed Sci Chic on social media or in the news, you probably know our founder and CEO, Erin Winick. She’s pretty awesome (though, admittedly, we’re a tad biased). But Sci Chic is bigger than just one person. In fact, we have a growing team of spectacular people working behind the scenes and we’d like you to meet them!

Last time in this series you met Jordan, the creative mind behind the 3D printers and 3D modeling here at Sci Chic. Today, we’d like to introduce you to another extremely valuable member of our team!

Shaina is heading up our sales development and public relations. This week we sat down with her to talk about her work, her passions and her life beyond the office!

How would you describe what you do at Sci Chic?

Considering I am still fairly new to the Sci Chic team, my work has just begun. On the sales development side I will mostly be working to identify, research and help develop strategies that will increase revenue for Sci Chic. On the public relation side of things I will be helping to maintain Sci Chic’s public image across all of our Sci Chi social media platforms.

Wait, so you’re new to the team? How does it feel?

Honestly? Pretty great, but also a little intimidating. Having the responsibility of upholding the image that Sci Chic currently has is a challenge. However, I like a challenge, and I am excited to get started and learn throughout this experience.

What would you say is your favorite area of science, and why?

I would have to say food science, because well, I love food! Is that a good enough answer?

What is a personal touch you bring to Sci Chic?

A personal touch that I bring to Sci Chic would probably be my love for social media and the creativity behind it. Social media has become a part of our daily life. In my opinion, social media is a source of inspiration and most importantly a fantastic promotional tool! Everyone has his or her own feelings about social media. I happen to love it.

Now that we know what you do at the office, tell us what you do outside it?

Outside of the office, I am your regular full-time college student! I study hard, but I also enjoy having fun! I love exploring the city of Gainesville. I’m a big foodie! I am always dragging my friends to all the farmers markets, food truck rallies and restaurants in town. Mostly because I want the perfect picture for my food Instagram, but also because the food scene in Gainesville is extremely diverse and delicious. This city has a lot to offer. However, I am fortunate enough to live close to home, so most weekends I get in my car and drive a short hour and a half to see my family in Jacksonville.

And, last question! If you could leave one lasting legacy at Sci Chic, what would it be? How would you like to change the company for the better?

That’s a tough one. I would have to say just promoting Sci Chic in a positive light. Before working here, I had never heard about Sci Chi, but then I realized what an amazing company it was, and all I wanted to do was tell my family and friends about it. I wouldn’t say I am a “science geek” of any sorts, but the idea of promoting science as an art form is amazing to me, and I love being apart of it.

* * *

And that’s it for this week’s interview! We appreciate you dropping in to learn more about the team here at Sci Chic bringing you the fashionable side of science! You can read Shaina’s full bio here.

In the future we’ll be introducing more team members, so stay tuned!
